About reLYME
reLYME (ree-lime) is a lifestyle blog created by Beka. It began as a hobby, and was intended to serve as solely a fashion blog. The realization that the Internet possessed such a fabulously rich environment for fashion and fashion blogs, led to the evolution of reLYME. Heavily influenced by a healthy dose of pop culture with a side of social media, reLYME aims to serve as a go-to blog for all things everyday and beautiful.
Fusing style quips with artistic and whimsical insights, reLYME reminds readers that life needs more ZEST!
Beka, Editor in Chief
Beka is a Florida native, with a brief diversion in New York City, who has been glued to the Internet since she got her first screenname while in middle school. (We’ll spare you with the actual screenname…it’s frightfully embarrassing.) By the time she entered college, Beka was building websites, taking part in online communities, and blogging away! Her love affair with fashion began when she was a little girl, digging through the remnants of her mom’s close, eyeing baubles and trinkets from the 60s. (Perhaps that is why the 60s remain one of her favorite decades for style.) Her real passion wasn’t realized, however, until the age of 10 when she received her first magazine subscription. (It was Seventeen and Luke Perry was on the cover.) It was from that moment that she fell in love with editorial photography and the true art behind styling. In middle school, her social studies teacher admonished her for trying to write her current event articles about fashion models. That didn’t stop her, in 8th grade, Beka would save up her babysitting money, walk to her favorite local clothing store, and purchase new clothes. (Hello, platforms and bell bottom jeans!)
In her mid-twenties, Beka has worked as a writer, a teacher, and a social media diva. Her claim to fame is finding the gems among the rubble…interesting pieces that cause people to say, “That’s really unique. Where did you get that?” She is most drawn to interest textures and pleatings. (Beka loves her some ruffles!!!) And she has been known to spend literally hours playing with beauty products. Hours people! Many hours have been logged traipsing through the aisles sampling glosses, shadows, and fragrances.
Aside from all things girly, what she most enjoysmaking things and baking things: she crafts (or tries to), paints when she feels a whim, and prepares makeshift confections and delicacies. Her nose is constantly stuck in a book (which is a location she prefers over other people’s business.) And, she’s a sucker for anything creative, vintage, or literary. She dreams of writing the great American novella, hopefully setting down as a full-time writer, and traveling abroad.
Heather, Contributing Writer
Heather Angelina has a problem, my friends. Groceries or Givenchy? Power or Prada? Car payment
or Chanel? It’s never much of a decision. Which explains why the lone soymilk bottle in her refrigerator door is warm. It doesn’t matter, she doesn’t feel like taking the bus to get more anyways. Fashion and writing have always been Heather’s favorite things. She graduated with an English Literature major and a Journalism minor, screaming from the rooftops she would never teach (because that’s all English major do, apparently). Instead, she moved to her dream city in search of some mystical Sex and the City experience. Hello, NYC.
She worked with a major entertainment magazine: organizing events, researching for the magazine, jet setting to Los Angeles at a moments notice—it was pretty much her dream job. She also covered Fashion Week and other entertainment related topics with the online magazine, Patrol. But there was something missing. As much as New York was inspiring and enchanting, she decided it wasn’t what she wanted (despite all the fabulous sample sales). So back to her native Florida she flew, not sure what was next.
Teaching. The very word had terrified her for years. But now, it all made sense. The teaching schedule allowed her to write and travel, things that are extremely important to her. The teaching format allowed her to be creative and impact people (yes, kids are people too…) in a very real way. So, she tried teaching literature to high school students, loved it, and the rest is history! In addition to teaching Crime and Punishment and Pride and Prejudice, she also writes on a freelance basis for magazines and blogs. Painting, sketching, jewelry design, writing fiction and learning Italian are also interests that are regularly ignored in favor of sleep. Oh right…she also really likes sleep.
Beka's take on Blogging and Fashion:
Press:
June/July 2009 issue of Style Sample Magazine
“reLYME’s Beka graces us with a glimpse into the whirlwind world of New York fashion public relations.”
Coutorture Community’s Morning Must Read 8/14/08:
“reLYME is wondering if it is time to invest in the vest. After being away from the blogosphere, could she be coming in on the back end of a trend, or is she onto something?”
