Dashing Diva Takes On Backstage NYFW S/S 2010

Sep19

Dashing Diva was everywhere this season, prepping models backstage at several shows. There was Jillian Lewis, Mikhael Kale, Lorick, Caroline Seikaly, L.A.M.B., Tahari, Rosa Cha, and Georges Chakra to name a few.

This season seemed to be about largely about the neutrals.

One of my favorite nail hues was Dashing Diva's Trust Fund as seen at Erin Fetherston:

As you prepare to stow away your summer polishes, head to Dashing Diva and stock up on neutrals for spring.

L.A.M.B. Spring 2010

Sep12

The L.A.M.B. runway was an eclectic mix of bold prints, crazy colors, and a juxtaposition of pretty and punk. The looks were edgy and altogether youthful.

There were some looks that kept me guessing, but many of the pieces just took my breath away. (Such as the darling white lace tights below that I must have right now! As Sarah from Style IT would say, "I need them in my life!")

All in all, I've always been a big proponent of L.A.M.B. and if this season was so much fun, I'm so excited to see what happens next season!

BCBG Max Azria NYFW Spring 2010

Sep11

The kickoff day to Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week was a flutter of excitement as BCBG Max Azria presented another successful runway show.

The latest collection, a youthful line celebrating colors and angles, provided a refreshing retreat from the post-summer blues.

Using asymmetrical angles, vibrant hues, and color blocking patterns, BCBG makes this girl desire seeing these looks transcend from the runway to her closet!

All-New NARS Fall 2009 Collection

Jul18

Fall’s runways were dominated by two words: bold and feminine. Strong shouldered and form-hugging silhouettes, extreme heels and provocative thigh-high boots, and a color palette of classic hues turned up a notch to Technicolor volumes. These trends also illustrate the NARS Fall collection.

“For this collection, I wanted to create something fragile and strong, and seductive but not aggressive,” said François Nars, Founder and Creative Director of NARS Cosmetics. The combination of strength and refinement has become a hallmark of NARS, and is particularly fitting this season as the brand celebrates its 15th anniversary.

NARS Fast Ride Lipstick - $24

NARS Tokaido Express - $16

NARS Silk Road Duo Eyeshadow- $32

NARS Brumes Duo Eyeshadow- $32

NARS Indian Summer Duo Eyeshadow- $32

NARS Mekong Single Eyeshadow- $22

Club Harem

Mar17

As a twenty-something, I grew up during what I consider the 'Golden Era of Disney.' I don't know if that's actually the case, that the 90's were the golden era, but the most glorious decade for pop culture, in my opinion, did produce a fashion icon in Princess Jasmine from Aladdin.

Granted, harem pants were around long before Disney decided to play up inaccurate Middle Eastern stereotypes, but Princess Jasmine's blue pair of harem pants brought this style to the forefront of my mind, and I had always wanted a pair.

Of course, now that I'm older, and I see harem pants hitting the runway in living color, I'm not quite sure what to make of them. And even though harem pants tried making their transition to the Western World circa 2007, it's the 2009 runway that seems to be embracing the Persian/Arabic fashions.

Exhibit A:

At the Christian Dior fall 2009 show in Paris, John Galliano unleashed the Middle Eastern fashion inspiration beast as models donned outfits that were a unique and modernized blend of Asian and French designs.

Exhibit B:

Paris fashion week also welcomed a different take on Harem Pants at the Balmain fall 2009 collection. Lending itself to a slightly edgier look, this version make me wonder how many models could actually fit into each pant leg.

Exhibit C:
Even Alexander McQueen's spring/summer 2009 collection's gone harem.

Harem pants are now making their way to stores, and in much more affordable versions, like this black pair at Asos, this comfy-cute version at Forever 21, or these characters available at Anthropologie.

Admittedly, I once owned a pair of sweatpants resembling harem pants, that my best friend playfully nicknamed "The Genie Pants." However, aside from a comfy pair of duds to be worn around the house, I'm not quite sure how harem pants would translate into ready-to-wear.

What are your thoughts on this modern take on a "Arabian" classic?

Taylor Momsen hits NYFW in NARS

Feb23

Gossip Girl's Little J may have abandoned her smokey eye, but in real life, Taylor Momsen's smokey eye is going strong. In fact, she attended the F/W 2009 Marchesa and Anna Sui shows this Fashion Week in NARS cosmetics. NARS Makeup Artist, Sharon Brown, recreated Taylor's now-signature look for these events.

Here's a step-by-step guide to making over your face a la Ms. Momsen:

Skin:

· Mix NARS Firming Foundation in Deauville and NARSskin brightening serum to create an even base with a subtle glow ["She certainly doesn't need the firming benefits of the foundation, but I love the texture," explained Sharon]

· Apply NARS Duo Concealer in Custard/Ginger as needed

· Blend NARS Cream Blush in Penny Lane into cheeks

· Highlight cheekbones with a soft blend of NARS Blush Duo in Hungry Heart

Eyes:

· Line the top and bottom lashes with NARS Eyeliner Pencil in Black Moon

· Smudge Black Moon over entire lid ["For Taylor's eye makeup, the darker the better," said Sharon.]

· Apply slate blue side of NARS Duo Eyeshadow in Underworld for a pop of color

· Layer NARS Single Eyeshadow in Night Flight, using cobalt blue pearls to accentuate Underworld

· Top with a light dusting of NARS Single Eyeshadow in Cyprus

· Highlight brow bone with NARS Single Eyeshadow in Aybssinia

Lips

· Line lips with NARS Lip Liner Pencil in Tonga (Summer 2009)

· Apply NARS Lip Gloss in Sweet Revenge for sheer color (Spring 2009)

All NARS Cosmetics are available at www.narscosmetics.com

Backstage at Marchesa: NYFW Fall 2009

Feb20

Be sure to check out a guest post I wrote for Dina of Eye 4 Style about the magic that took place backstage at Marchesa. I was unable to experience a large portion of said magic, however, because I waited an hour and a half to see the models.

What I did see later on, though, was truly beautiful!

How I'm Surviving Mercedes Benz NYFW Fall 2009

Feb20

With events, backstage appointments, and hopping from Bryant Park to some off site location, with hardly any time to upload photos and videos before the next show, my life would be a nightmare if it weren't for a couple of handy gadgets.

However, I'd like to share two of my greatest digital loves, pictured above.

1) Flip Video Ultra - Sure, there are newer and fancier models out since I snagged this one. (And believe me, I'm pining after the new Flip MinoHD!!!) However, I am constantly saved by this handy little cam. Not only is it small and compact enough to fit in my purse, but it also makes uploading so cinchy. Plus, the quality is amazing!

2) MIMOBOT - This adorable little flash drive is a complete blessing. I have the 4GB version so it stores tons of files. You have to imagine that taking hundreds of photos a day can way a bit heavy on a tiny little flash drive, but this baby's powerful enough to handle everything I send to it. And, it's quite the conversation piece, as everyone wants to know just where I got it.

Special thanks to my Starbucks card, Swedish Fish, and Snapple Diet Peach Tea for providing me with the afternoon pick-me-ups required to maintain my fashion week readiness.

What did you keep at the ready in your NYFW bag?
