Fashion Bloggers at Vivienne Tam at NYFW Fall 2009

Feb20

The always chic social media diva, Yuli Ziv, from My It Things, among many other social media endeavors, was covering NYFW backward and forward. I was very happy, of course, when she pulled out the microphone at the Vivienne Tam presentation, and asked to interview me, and my fellow fashion bloggers--Jordanna of Clutch22, Felicia of FeliciaSullivan.com, Sarah Conley of StyleITOnline, Julia of Fashion Pulse Daily--about our blogging experience at this season's fashion week. Check out the video below and look for me at 1:34 and 2:52! ;)

Viva la Fashion Bloggers!

New York in review

Jun17

Well, I have finally arrived home from New York. I had a wonderful time, but was surprised that my suitcase accompanied me home looking not much different than when it had left with me. Most of my purchases were either necessities or accessories. I didn't really buy any new clothes in New York. I know...the shopping mecca of the U.S. and I didn't buy anything good. I just wasn't into shopping this time around. For some reason, I was more intrigued by being away somewhere different, taking in the atmosphere, the environment...the street style.

I observed that the typical outfit (not worn by tourists) for New Yorkers looked something like this:

Not one to jump aboard a trend that I feel may be somewhat short lived, I opted for comfort while in the Big Apple. A typical outfit for me, looked something like this:

What I found most intriguing, and I'd never noticed before in previous visits to NYC, is that each branch of a particular store often sells different items. For instance, an H&M in Soho sells clothing that looks vastly different from an H&M uptown. There's always something new to see that way.

So, I survived getting lost in Central Park, and the weather's temper tantrum--fluctuating between extreme sunshine and rain--to come to one conclusion: I want to take more style risks...and I want to move somewhere new. Okay, maybe that's two conclusions.

Any suggestions for where I should move?

(Photos and more discussion from the trip to follow later...I need a vacation from my vacation so that I can work on my travel journal, and upload photos.)

I shall return...

Well, I'm off on my [annual] trip to New York City...I have decided not to bring my laptop, so that I can enjoy my trip. (If I bring it, I'll be too tempted to work!) Don't fret! I will be back!

How to wear a babydoll dress

Jun09

Actually, there isn't a "correct" way.

I have often wondered about the fascination that I, and women just like me, have with baby doll dresses. Although adorable on hangers, they are rarely flattering on a human. We are often struggling with our weight, and yet we opt to wear something that causes us to have a pseudo baby bump. According to a New York Post article published last summer, men hate them anyway because they make us look as though we are with child.
I am aware of this, yet I still wear baby doll dresses every chance I get. And so do celebs, like

Amanda Bynes,

Nicky Hilton

and Kylie Minogue

Unless you're thin enough for people to assume that there's no way you're carrying a small child under your dress, it's usually best to assume that most waiters will be asking if you're eating for two--why, yes, it has happened to me on several occasions. Thank you very much!

But they do hide our hips a little bit...and they do feel more free than most dresses.
And stores, such as Anthropologie, do have cute options for summer:

And so, when your dress is that cute, who really cares if you look preggers? Go ahead, eat for two! Don't be afraid to polish off that extra slice of cheesecake, or pick from your boyfriend's plate.

Okay, I don't mean that, but I'm still planning to wear many more baby doll dresses this summer. What do you think of them?

BlogHer '08!

Jun03

Who's going? I just received my registration confirmation today! I'm so excited! San Francisco has been on my list of places to see in the U.S. In fact, it's been #1 for quite some time! I've seen so many movies that take place in SF...not just Princess Diaries, but heck! That made the place look great, too!

On top of that, I'm really looking forward to all of the speakers and networking that will take place!

If you haven't registered for BlogHer '08 yet, please do so! It'll be a great couple of July days in San Francisco!
