When you first realize it's time for fashion week, you hope to be inspired. You hope to see a collection that's memorable. And, you also hope for an equally memorable experience. I saw a few shows that were exciting. But, none were truly as fascinating as the Vivienne Tam presentation at her store on Mercer.
The crowd was dazzled at the site of the collection on display. Radiant reds meshed with purple hues to create a truly regal experience. Basic blacks were revisited with textures that were truly unique and incredibly gorgeous.
My first impression of the collection is that it was not only unlike anything I'd seen this season, but all of the looks were definitely wearable. And Vivienne herself looked stunning.
The people behind the scenes of the show really had fashion bloggers in mind. The show featured a blogger lounge that allowed all in attendance to use Twitter or upload to their blogs in real time. Could this be the wave of the fashion future?
I hope so, and with these gems by Vivienne Tam, the future looks bright!

Like most people who saw it, I absolutely squealed with delight while watching the sneezing panda video on YouTube. Like some people, I am a die-hard animal lover and panda proponent. (What is a panda proponent? I don't know--I just made it up--but it sounds so official!)
New York-based fashion designer, Vivienne Tam, clearly shares my affinity for pandas. She recently debuted her newest panda-inspired collection to benefit the adorable, bamboo-munching bears.
In Beijing, Tam auctioned off black-and-white outfits to raise money for the endangered animals' habitat, Wolong Panda Reserve in Sichuan province--a cause that's near and dear to the Tam, originally from China. She created five outfits which were auctioned off for nearly 190,000 yuan (about $28k!)
Wolong Panda Reserve lies just 30 kilometres away from the earthquake epicentre, deep in Sichuan's mountains.
On May 12, an earthquake hit 7.9 on the richter scale, devastating about 8% of the pandas' habitat.
"I would love to raise some money to save the pandas. That is our campaign. Save a lot of money to help them," Tam said.

When I heard that Vivienne Tam was debuting a collection in support of pandas, known as China's "little ambassadors," I found myself grinning from ear to ear. I absolutely adore it when designers get a conscience and try to make a difference with their designs. It seems all is right with the fashion world once again.
