Sara Claire & Esther

Oct29

Manhattan-based independent designers, Sara Jordan and Aimee Wolk, are putting a whole new spin on recycling.

Their vintage-inspired line, Sara Claire & Esther, features embellishments, buttons, trims, and fabrics that are re-purposed from thrifted or vintage garments. The feminine looks are reminiscent of childhood tea parties or fashion expeditions through mother's or grandmother's closet.

And what's more? Their Fall 2009 collection is making me swoon! In shades and tailoring that can only be described as elegant, classic, and whimsical rolled into one. Check it out for yourself:

Rebecca Minkoff has cleverly found a way to extend the conversation with her customers. (I am a huge fan, and not just because we share the same first name!)

Now, Rebecca Minkoff enthusiasts can log into Minkette.com, and get the latest in fashion, celebrity gossip, and even music.

Currently in Beta version, Minkette offers Rebecca Minkoff’s blog, giving loyalists even more access, as well as the opportunity to create a profile and participate in forums--a relatively “cool” concept from a well-known brand.

Log on to Minkette.com to check it out for yourself.

Amber Valletta: Model and Designer?

Apr16

The fashion rumor mill is already turning since WWD posted an unrelated article that hinted at supermodel Amber Valletta's plan to explore the world of fashion design.

Word on the street is that Ms. Valletta plans to "collaborate" on an elusive line. That's right, folks. No more info than that until summer.

Something tells me that the former MTV House of Style might just know a thing or two about how to truly design beautiful fashion.

Tell Me About it, Stud!

Mar25

While 80's punk bands helped to popularize the trend of adding studs to clothing and accessories, it's the fall 2009 runway that has aided in resurrecting it. Designers like Balmain, Alexander Wang, and Marc Jacobs have given voice to the resurgence of studded garments, inspiring mainstream stores to open their doors to the stud-loving public with a rebel yell.

And while some studded accessories carried by some stars (a la Mary-Kate Olsen) might be a bit out of your budget, or cause people to think you're a bit out of your mind, there are some more cost-efficient, and slightly more feminine alternatives. (Don't worry: you'll still feel like a modern day Joan Jett.)

Alexander McQueen for Target, $20

Revolve, $91

Heritage 1981, $33

Journeys, $50

TopShop.com, about $82

I usually don't buy expensive clothing, but Shop It To Me!

Jul18

When I was in college, I had acquired a significant amount of debt. Most of this was not the unfortunate result of shopping sprees, mind you. But, I have since learned to watch my pennies. I am very careful about how I spend my money, especially when it comes to clothing. I really don't like to buy clothing. (What???)

If you were to peer into my walk-in closet, if you could open the door, you would be met with a superflux of clothing--piles of clothing that I don't have hangers enough to contain, baskets of laundry that I'll probably never get to wear. Sounds like heaven? Not quite. Most of these garments are the result of me buying cheaply made/cheaply priced clothing that have been replaced when they went out of style or when they became worn out.

I never buy expensive clothing. Then, I think, if I spent a little more on important pieces...they would last longer, right?

Enter Shop It To Me.

I first stumbled across this Utopian informant site a few weeks ago after trying to find ways to indulge my online window shopping habit. (My boyfriend window shops online with gadgets...we're both guilty of it.) I was immediately flabbergasted--Yes! Flabbergasted!--to learn that this site does the dirty work for me!

All I have to do is pick the fancy schmancy brands I covet, and then my size...size 8, thank you very much...and Shop It To Me does the rest. This site will single-handedly comb the entirety of the Internet, and sent me a hand-tailored e-mail with suggestions as to waht I should buy!

The brands you can select run the gamut from Marc Jacobs to Juicy Couture to Betsey Johnson. There's even Delia's and American Apparel!

Wasn't I surprised when I received an email telling me that one of the brands I selected was having a 40% off sale on the cutest dress these eyes had seen. (I won't tell you which brand or how much, because I decided not to buy it this time, and I don't want anyone to talk me into it!)

So, what's your experience with this site? Have you used it? Was it helpful? Sign up if you haven't already.
