Whatever you do: DON'T SHOP! (But, really, please shop!)

Jul23

When the darling, Yuli Ziv of MyItThings and Inside The Tents fame asked me to participate in a video project for Style Coalition last month, I was more than flattered. I would get to spend an evening with many of my friends and fellow fashion bloggers to film a video in support of the fashion industry.

Unfortunately, I was unable to participate as I was stuck on a layover flight at the time. However, I'm oh-so-pleased to share the Don't Shop video (inspired by the Don't Vote campaign) with you now. A perfect example of reverse psychology at its finest!:

Many of these darling beauties have become very near and dear to me during my short-lived life in New York City:

Style Observer
Second City Style
My It Things
Fashion Pulse Daily
Running with Heels
Style Bakery
The Jet Set Girls
Gala Darling
StyleIT
Felicia Sullivan
The Daily Obsession
SheFinds
Eye4Style

So, please join me in spreading the word about this video and please don't shop! (Again, I really want you to!)

Friday Favorite Five 9/19

No, I have not posted in a while. Yes, I've been a bad blogger. Yes, I'm dying to get back to blogging. The fact of the matter is, aside from not having Internet in my home until tomorrow, I'm planning a reLYME redesign AND switching servers. Needless to say, things are rather hectic right now. (Reminds me of that episode of Saved by the Bell where Lisa ran up her dad's credit card, and had to do both a closing sale and work at The Max to pay him back. Nothing but chaos!) Changes are in store...more photos, more updates, more giveaways, more everything! I promise, very soon!

At any rate, here are some of my favorite posts of the week. Enjoy!:

*Style maven, Gala Darling touches on a very serious note with an article on the quarter-life crisis.

*Dapper Kid makes me long for the upcoming days of hot cocoa, mittens, and scarves.

*Cupcakes and Cashmere investigates the trendy high-waisted skirt with The Hills star, Lauren Conrad.

*iPhone genius, Meebz, created the most adorable Paul Frank theme for iPhone Winterboard. Download it! I did!

*Belle Maison inspires bloggers go vintage at home with these vintage-inspired baubles.

The blogsphere's Darling

Eccentric and eloquent, the New Zealander turned New Yorker, Gala Darling, helps to redefine fashion, lifestyle, and blogging. She's the girl every blogger wants to emulate, with the site every blogger wishes she wrote. Her A-list site, iCiNG reads more like a magazine with regular columns such as Things I Love Thursday, Carousel Week, and Daily Outfit, along with a host of tips for how to live a better life. Charming, witty, and wise, Gala's a sass-act all the way!

Not one to conform to the changing trends of the blogosphere, Gala got her start writing about fashion. As her readership increased, iCiNG has expanded to cover topics from ideas for giving great compliments, to how to make a T-Shirt more interesting, and even to tips for raw eating on vacation.

"Writing has always been my passion & it fills me with enormous delight to write for other people who appreciate it! I think I get the most satisfaction from writing a long how to piece which will help lots of people!"

Her colorful tattoos and blue hair act as accessories to her always stylish, always cutting edge, whimsical style.

Bloggers like me have wondered what we could possibly write a post about that Gala hasn't already covered on her blog; Given the variety of article topics that Gala has written about, one has to wonder from where she draws the ideas for her articles:

"[Inspiration comes from] all sorts of places. Mostly just from life, & watching other people. I often find that if I've got a dose of writer's block, going for a walk through the city snaps me out of it pretty quickly."

And even though not everyone out there will agree with everything she says, one can't deny that Gala is the face who launched a thousand fashion blogs.
