Christina Aguilera Wears NARS Makeup at 2010 Golden Globes!

Jan18

Looking like the perfect portrait of glam, Christina Aguilera took to the Red Carpet at the 2010 Golden Globes wearing NARS makeup. And boy, was she stunning!

Below is Kristofer’s method for snagging Christina’s look:

  • Complexion: Use the Balancing Moisture Lotion and apply the Makeup Primer as a base. Apply Firming Foundation and set with Pressed Powder.
  • Eyes: Apply the vanilla side of India Song Duo Eyeshadow as a base, over the entire lid and up to eyebrow. Next, use the shimmering walnut shade of India Song Duo Eyeshadow and apply to the outer corner and under the bottom lash line. Then, use the warm rich brown side of Cordura Duo Eyeshadow just under eye rubbing into the lower lash line to create smokey eye. Curl the eyelashes and apply a coat of Larger Than Life Lengthening Mascara to top and bottom lashes, following with 2 coats of Larger Than Life Volumizing Mascara for full lashes. Take Nuits Blanches Eyeliner Stylo and dot in between individual lashes [Kristofer’s tip: “I used the Push Eyeliner Brush to blend the eyeliner in between the lashes, which helped to apply just enough without looking to heavy.”]
  • Lips: Use the Fantasia Lipliner Pencil and Niagara Lipstick. Next, apply Easy Lover Lip Gloss (NEW for Spring 2010) over [Kristofer’s tip:“Applying a sheer pink gloss on top of a nude colored lip provides a nice modern pop of color.”]
  • Cheeks: Generously apply Orgasm Illuminator (NEW for Spring 2010) to cheekbones, décolletage, and shoulders for an all over glow. Use Malaysia Multiple Bronzer to contour cheeks by blending under cheekbones. Apply the Mata Hari Blush to the apple of cheeks and lightly tap on browbone [Kristoper’s tip: “Lightly dusting a blush on the browbone gives life to the eye and melds the whole look together.”] Next, with short, back and forth quick strokes use Nico Blush to highlight cheekbones.

Orgasm Illuminator will be available at Sephora on February 1 and all other NARS Cosmetics are available at NARSCosmetics.com.

Julianna Margulies in NARS at the 2010 Golden Globes!

Jan18

Looking gorgeous, as per usual, Julianna Margulies wore NARS makeup on the red carpet at the 67th Golden Globe Awards.

NARS expert, Kristofer Buckle offers his step-by-step tips for achieving her look:

  • Complexion: Using fingers apply Orgasm Illuminator (NEW for Spring 2010) down the center of the nose, across cheekbones, and on the apples of the cheeks. Apply Firming Foundation all over face, mixing in with the Orgasm Illuminator. Re-apply Orgasm Illuminator over the entire complexion to encourage shine [Kristofer’s tip: “I used the Flat Concealer Brush to apply the Orgasm Illuminator on top of the foundation creating high gleam.”]
  • Eyes: Apply both sides of Cordura Duo Eyeshadow into the crease and all over the eyelid. Dab the sooty dark brown side of Cordura Duo Eyeshadow on the outer part of the eye [Kristofer’s tip: “I love the shimmering iridescent in this eyeshadow. A metallic iridescence softens the smokiness of an eye allowing it to look like it is part of the skin rather than looking gothic.”] Next, use the sable shade from Brousse Duo Eyeshadow and lightly dust under lower lash line. Then, lightly tap Orgasm Illuminator (NEW for Spring 2010) on the inside corner of the eye. Curl the eyelashes and apply Larger Than Life Lengthening Mascara.
  • Lips: Apply Cruising Lipstick (NEW Spring 2010) Next, layer Ophelia Lip Gloss (NEW Spring 2010) over the lipstick. [Kristofer’s tip: “I love this soft pink, it adds just the right amount of color.”]
  • Cheeks: Dust Super Orgasm Blush onto the apples of cheeks.
  • Body: Blend Orgasm Illuminator (NEW for Spring 2010) all over neck and décolletage.

Orgasm Illuminator will be available at Sephora on February 1 and all other NARS Cosmetics are available at NARSCosmetics.com.

Get Ageless Skin: NARS Makeup Cleansing Oil

Sep01

Every birthday that passes (I just celebrated my 26th in July) is a constant reminder of the importance of taking care of my skin.

And, in my humble opinion, one of the best ways to care for your skin is with proper night time makeup removal. Looking for a great, new cleanser? Look no further!

NARS introduces Makeup Cleansing Oil, a weightless and silky formula that thoroughly removes any traces of makeup, while preparing the skin for a good cleansing and leaving no residue behind!

NARS Makeup Cleansing Oil will be available for $40 in September 2009 on narscosmetics.com.

All-New NARS Fall 2009 Collection

Jul18

Fall’s runways were dominated by two words: bold and feminine. Strong shouldered and form-hugging silhouettes, extreme heels and provocative thigh-high boots, and a color palette of classic hues turned up a notch to Technicolor volumes. These trends also illustrate the NARS Fall collection.

“For this collection, I wanted to create something fragile and strong, and seductive but not aggressive,” said François Nars, Founder and Creative Director of NARS Cosmetics. The combination of strength and refinement has become a hallmark of NARS, and is particularly fitting this season as the brand celebrates its 15th anniversary.

NARS Fast Ride Lipstick - $24

NARS Tokaido Express - $16

NARS Silk Road Duo Eyeshadow- $32

NARS Brumes Duo Eyeshadow- $32

NARS Indian Summer Duo Eyeshadow- $32

NARS Mekong Single Eyeshadow- $22

Taylor Momsen hits NYFW in NARS

Feb23

Gossip Girl's Little J may have abandoned her smokey eye, but in real life, Taylor Momsen's smokey eye is going strong. In fact, she attended the F/W 2009 Marchesa and Anna Sui shows this Fashion Week in NARS cosmetics. NARS Makeup Artist, Sharon Brown, recreated Taylor's now-signature look for these events.

Here's a step-by-step guide to making over your face a la Ms. Momsen:

Skin:

· Mix NARS Firming Foundation in Deauville and NARSskin brightening serum to create an even base with a subtle glow ["She certainly doesn't need the firming benefits of the foundation, but I love the texture," explained Sharon]

· Apply NARS Duo Concealer in Custard/Ginger as needed

· Blend NARS Cream Blush in Penny Lane into cheeks

· Highlight cheekbones with a soft blend of NARS Blush Duo in Hungry Heart

Eyes:

· Line the top and bottom lashes with NARS Eyeliner Pencil in Black Moon

· Smudge Black Moon over entire lid ["For Taylor's eye makeup, the darker the better," said Sharon.]

· Apply slate blue side of NARS Duo Eyeshadow in Underworld for a pop of color

· Layer NARS Single Eyeshadow in Night Flight, using cobalt blue pearls to accentuate Underworld

· Top with a light dusting of NARS Single Eyeshadow in Cyprus

· Highlight brow bone with NARS Single Eyeshadow in Aybssinia

Lips

· Line lips with NARS Lip Liner Pencil in Tonga (Summer 2009)

· Apply NARS Lip Gloss in Sweet Revenge for sheer color (Spring 2009)

All NARS Cosmetics are available at www.narscosmetics.com

Backstage at Marchesa: NYFW Fall 2009

Feb20

Be sure to check out a guest post I wrote for Dina of Eye 4 Style about the magic that took place backstage at Marchesa. I was unable to experience a large portion of said magic, however, because I waited an hour and a half to see the models.

What I did see later on, though, was truly beautiful!

Beka's Besties: Favorite Things of 2008

Dec31

I haven't done a favorite things list in a while, so I figured that the close of 2008 deserved a list just as grandiose as the year itself. Below, are my choices of Beka's Besties of 2008.

enTERTAINMENT

Best New Show: Gossip Girl - The book series turned drama has millions of fans tuning in each week to find out what will become of our conniving Ms. Waldorf and her brooding, arrogant love interest, Chuck Bass. I've never read the books, but I'm loving the show. Especially the style!

Best Album: Kanye West, 808s & Heartbreak - Though I'm not typically a hip hop fan, I'm very much a Kanye fan, and each song on this album promises booty shakin' and finger tappin'. I have yet to find a song on this album that I don't like.

Best Movie: Dark Knight - C'mon, wouldn't you have been the least bit surprised if I didn't choose this movie? As the late Heath Ledger's last iconic film, Dark Knight proves to be the best of the Batman flicks. Even better than my personal fave, Batman Returns. If only I were convinced that hottie, Christian Bale, is well-suited for his role as Batman. (No pun intended).

Best Book: Tori Spelling, sTORI Telling - No, I can't believe it either, but I did actually enjoy this book. Perhaps it's because I love biographies, but Tori's tongue-in-cheek accounts of her past and present make for one interesting read. Plus, I might even appreciate her career a bit more. On second thought, maybe not.

beAUTY

Best Facial Scrub: St. Ive's Invigorating Apricot Scrub - Call me old fashioned, but I'll never stop loving St. Ive's scrubs. And this one is no different. Tough enough to give your skin the exfoliation it needs, but gentle enough to retain skin's moisture, this miracle scrub remains a #1 Best Seller for a reason--it works!

Best Facial Cleanser: The Body Shop's Seaweed Deep Cleansing Facial Wash - I started using this in 2008 after undergoing a constant struggle with facial cleansers. They were either too harsh or too gentle. Not this one. TBS finally hit the nail on the head with their Seaweed line, and this wash cleanses skin without over-drying leaving my face perfectly radiant. Love it!

Best Lipgloss: NARS Lip Gloss in Giza - I love nude lip glosses. This gloss by Nars, who in my opinion is the world leader in lip glosses, gives my pout just what it needs to feel soft and subtly colored. Unbelievably magical!

Best Mascara: Rimmel London's Lycra Lash Extender Mascara in Black - I have short lashes, that definitely need more than just an eyelash curler can give them. Enter, Rimmel's Lycra Lash Extender Mascara. This amazing little tube not only lengthens my lashes, but also curls them big time. The best part? It's pretty darn cheap, too!

faSHION

Best Accessory: Scarves - One of the biggest trends this year was the popularity of scarves. I have always enjoyed wearing them, and thanks to stores like Urban Outfitters and Forever 21 who created lightweight scarves, I was able to wear them year-round.

Best Trend Comeback...It's a tie!: Animal prints - I'm so glad animal prints returned in 2008 (and might stick around in 2009!) From leopard to zebra, these wild patterns made their mark on everything from shoes to accessories, and even handbags.
Welcome back! Also returning this year, Leggings - They never really left stores, but their flame did die down for a bit. The reawakening of leggings in the fall took the guess work out of outfits for me, and kept my summer looks hanging on a few months longer.

Best Figure-flatterer: High-waist - Whether you're a size 0 or a size 20, I've seen high-waist looks dazzle every figure. Although I never could quite find a decent pair of high-waisted pants, I did fancy a couple of black high-waist skirts. When coupled with a belt, it was a match made in fashion heaven

Best T-shirt: V-neck - No, I didn't identify a particular brand with this one, (although thumbs up to my gray American Apparel v-neck I wear just about every other day...ask my bf!), these babies made their appearance in stores and on celebs. And they always look great. I don't care if you're packing A-cups or DD-cups, v-necks seem to look pretty good on most everyone. I snagged them from every store I saw them, and you know what? I was never disappointed! I hope this trend sticks around!

inTERNET

Best Web Addiction: Twitter - If you're not using Twitter, why not? Easier to update than any other social networking site, Twitter has become THE site to use in 2008. Hailed by social media gurus as one of the best ways to expand your brand online, Twitter keeps your followers in the know with what you're doing every second of the day. Like when you're eating a sandwich with pickles and lettuce, or you just broke a nail, or your dog just peed on the carpet, or when you're cell phone rings, or...

Best Fashion & Beauty Blog(s): OK, so I can't quite pick just one so I'm going to give the five blogs I felt were the most innovative in 2008. Ready?

  • I am Fashion - Whether it's their eye for beautiful editorial photos or their ability to track down the latest trends, these three prove they ARE fashion.
  • StyleIt - Sarah know beauty. Sarah shares her secrets. Sarah's blog was and is a must-read blog.
  • Dapper Kid - One part educational, and two parts fashionable, the UK's Dapper Kid knows good writing, and what to do with it!
  • Dressed Up Like a Lady - I am always and forever inspired by the sheer style and adorableness that this Cammila embodies.
  • Sea of Shoes - With an innate and other-worldly understanding of fashion, this young lady's already got more style street cred than those twice her age.

Best Fashion Website: The brilliant Jennine from, The Coveted not only owns and maintains one of my favorite blogs, but also started up one of the fastest-growing fashion blogging sites on the web, Independent Fashion Bloggers. You can sign up to be a part of the forum, or even get your blog featured as one of the best of the week. I have highly enjoyed this site this year, and I'm lucky to have been featured as a contributing writer on the site. (Look for more in 2009!)
