JNY Style Miles Preview Party with Lloyd Boston

Jul12

Last week, Jones New York hosted an event in their showroom to celebrate the latest episode of JNY Style Miles. And they brought in none other than JNY Style Guy, Lloyd Boston.

The showroom floor was filled with my favorite fellow fashion bloggers, as we received a tour through the latest in JNY style.

The best part?

Hearing Lloyd offer his expert style tips firsthand.

1) Belts - Lloyd stressed the importance of one of the sometimes overlooked accessories, the belt. You can wear belts to emphasize your waist, or even worn over a blazer. According to Lloyd, a belt can even take an outfit from day to night.

2) Keep it simple - Lloyd believes that sometimes we have the tendency to over-accessorize. Rather than pairing a brown dress with tons of baubles, he suggests simply carrying a bag with a shot of color like orange.

3) Duets to the rescue - JNY offers duets, dress shirts attached to sweaters and dresses. These looks give a sophisicated, layered look without any of the extra bulk.

4) From your "desk to dinner" - Especially for the New York woman, it's often difficult to find the time to change before meeting your friends for an after-work dinner. Lloyd suggests simple transitions. swap out your dress pants for a pair of skinny jeans paired with the blazer you were already wearing for a chic, evening look.

And what are some huge trends for fall?

1) It's all about jewel tones - Jones New York offers several black and white cardigans, tops, and pants that are perfectly paired with bowled colors. Switch up a black cami with a bright one, or add a bold scarf to an all-to-corporate pants suit.

2) A little bit o' shine - Whether it's through metallics, faux-leather, or sequins, adding just a tad of shiny will add life to your fall wardrobe.

Fedora the explorer!

Jun19

I have always loved fedoras, although I thought that they wouldn't suit me. (I've never had a head for hats.)

They have been making a comeback with celebs like Lindsay Lohan and Victoria Beckham.

These babies are all over the streets of New York. I must have seen a thousand boutiques, street vendors, and New Yorkers flaunting the fashionable fedora.
Ever since I saw Carrie wearing one them in the Sex and the Citymovie,

I've been eying them even more. And so has the world of retail stores.

Below are a few options for those of you thinking of rocking the fedora:

Urban Outfitters, $28

Forever 21, $11

Delia's, $20

So, I'll probably break down and buy one...to make me feel more like a gangster, of course. It's summertime, after all, and hats are always a must. Any thoughts on the fedora???

New York in review

Jun17

Well, I have finally arrived home from New York. I had a wonderful time, but was surprised that my suitcase accompanied me home looking not much different than when it had left with me. Most of my purchases were either necessities or accessories. I didn't really buy any new clothes in New York. I know...the shopping mecca of the U.S. and I didn't buy anything good. I just wasn't into shopping this time around. For some reason, I was more intrigued by being away somewhere different, taking in the atmosphere, the environment...the street style.

I observed that the typical outfit (not worn by tourists) for New Yorkers looked something like this:

Not one to jump aboard a trend that I feel may be somewhat short lived, I opted for comfort while in the Big Apple. A typical outfit for me, looked something like this:

What I found most intriguing, and I'd never noticed before in previous visits to NYC, is that each branch of a particular store often sells different items. For instance, an H&M in Soho sells clothing that looks vastly different from an H&M uptown. There's always something new to see that way.

So, I survived getting lost in Central Park, and the weather's temper tantrum--fluctuating between extreme sunshine and rain--to come to one conclusion: I want to take more style risks...and I want to move somewhere new. Okay, maybe that's two conclusions.

Any suggestions for where I should move?

(Photos and more discussion from the trip to follow later...I need a vacation from my vacation so that I can work on my travel journal, and upload photos.)
